I am a rehabilitation specialist with over fifteen years of experience working in the NHS treating people in the community with a diverse array of medical conditions.  I will treat you in your home environment and work with you to create a treatment plan that fits your needs. I am dedicated to helping you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life. Whether you are recovering from an injury, suffering from a loss of confidence following multiple falls or struggling with a chronic condition, I am here to help.  I am highly skilled at motivating and enabling individuals to reach their rehab potential.  I take a holistic approach to treatment, focusing on your physical, psychological and emotional well-being. I begin by asking what matters most to you.

By treating you in your home environment you are saved from the burden of travelling particularly if you are struggling with car transfers or walking long distances.  My focus can be entirely on you and how you manage in your home environment.

Rehabilitation of movement and exercise prescription

There are a host of factors that can affect your mobility as you get older.  It is normal for our bodies to experience a reduction in muscle mass and bone density with age.  This can cause generalised muscle weakness and pain often associated with age related wear and tear to your joints.   This can contribute to a loss of independence and confidence.  I can conduct a comprehensive initial assessment focusing on your posture, joint range of movement and muscle strength.  I will  provide you with an individualised exercise program to enable you to improve your muscle strength and balance. This normally helps to reduce your levels of pain.  I aim to rehabilitate you back to a realistic baseline.  Often people just do not know where to start particularly when troubled by multiple conditions that impact on your abilities.

Falls prevention and balance training

Mechanical slips, trips and falls can occur for a variety of reasons as we get older.  Not only are they frightening, they can also lead to a loss of confidence with individuals becoming increasingly housebound and reliant on family/carers to get out of the house.  This can lead to social isolation which is detrimental to our emotional and psychological well being.  I am adept at identifying falls risks in the home environment and can provide you with specific balance training to reduce your risk.  I am happy to practise your outdoor mobility with you to support you in regaining your independence.  I will also assess for any contributing factors to your falls risk such as low blood pressure.

Respiratory physiotherapy - airway clearance and breathlessness management for lung conditions

I am adept at treating people with both obstructive respiratory conditions such as COPD and restrictive lung conditions ie Interstitial lung disease.  When people struggle with their breathlessness they tend to avoid activities that make them breathless and become increasingly deconditiioned leading to worsening breathlessness on exertion.  I have a wealth of knowledge and strategies that I can teach you in order to manage your breathlessness.  I can further assist you with airway clearance techniques to help you clear the secretions of your chest which will help you with your breathing.

Post operative surgery rehabilitation

I am skilled at supporting individuals recovery following joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder) and will guide you in rebuilding your muscle strength, mobility and confidence following your surgery in an appropriate and timely manner.  Sometimes we just need some guidance to ensure that you are getting the balance right between progressing your movement alongside pacing yourself in order to fully recover.  I am proficient in supporting your rehab following a long hospital stay.   I will assist you in rebuilding your strength, endurance and stamina to your previous level.

Specific soft tissue massage and ultrasound treatment

These treatments are highly effective for pain relief and work well with
chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.  They work by improving the blood flow to the affected area thus speeding up tissue healing and reducing inflammation.  They can also assist in relaxing tense muscle tissue, mobilise joint restriction and improve joint range of movement.  Furthermore they promote healing and collagen alignment post surgery.
